SAHAKAR BAZAR - HISTORY
Kalwa Co-Operative Consumers Organisation Limited was established on 12th May 1945 by the people from all religious background. The main Aim & concern behind the establishment of the Organisation is to provide food & household products to common people at reasonable & affordable price during the time of less availability of same. During those days, Due to shortage vendors of food & other household products used to increase the prices of food & grains in open market & this the time when “Sahakar Bazaar” has started its business by lessening the prices of food & grains. This time the total number of member was just 195. Organisation acquitted the milk business from private sector by getting distribution ship from Warana & Shivamrut Milk Societies. This was the turning point when Organisation started getting flourished.
At present total sales of Organisation is above is 33 crores (330 Million).Total number of member is 7221 & share capital is above 81 Lakhs. Organisation has constructed its 4 storey specious air-conditioned building in 2011 wherein Kalwa store branch & Main office is situated. Since earning profit is not main aim of the organization therefore it has always controlled inflation by keeping affordable prices for food & household product. When there is shortage of household products in open market then we at “Sahakar Bazaar” make the goods available for consumers at minimal cost or at our purchase rate. Having considered this last time during hike in vegetables Govt. of Maharashtra set up “Swasta Bhaji Kendra” (Centre for Vegetables at reasonable rates) in “Sahakar Bazar”. At present there are total 9 Self Service stores (Swayam Seva), 9 Milk centers, 2 Medical stores & Govt. Approved rationing shops available at consumer’s service.
As a social concern & obligation, Organisation has planted approx 1.5 to 2 lakh trees through the medium of Organisation’s directors, members & employees. Organisation also distributes prizes to its employee’s Children from 5th Std to 10th Std for encouragement on their academic success. Organisation also offers discount, gift items & similar schemes during the period of festivals like Eid, Ganeshtsav, Diwali & XMAS. Organisation has not only limited its AIM but also guided other societies and also supplied the goods at whole sale rates. Now those other societies are capable on their feet & “Sahakar Bazaar” feels proud of it. Government of Maharashtra has taken this work of Organisation in to consideration & awarded “SAHAKAR BHUSHAN” on 16th January 2014.
Skilled Leadership
Honorable chairman Shri.Narayan Gajana Gawand took the charge as chairman in 1992-93 & succeeded in transforming the Organisation from primary consumer stores to a centralized consumer store. Organisation’s then total sales including three consumers dept , rationing shops & milk centers was Rs.3.74 crores & business profit was 19.22 lakh. The share capital from total 2788 members was 5.04 lakh .On 18th June 1994 Organisation started its self service store on rental basis space at takoli mohalla, kalwa. By the end of 31st March 1994 total sales of Organisation was Rs.6.51 crores . On huge demand from members Organisation started it medical store at Kalwa on 12th May 1994 but other medical shops created problems for Organisation as it was selling the medicine at very much lesser price than printed MRP. But Organisation handled such problems skillfully & earned good will as one of the popular medical store in Maharashtra.
In 1994 with the beginning of annual sales at Rs.52 lakh now medical stores has reached to annual sales of Rs.3.56 crores by the 31st March 2016. In 1994 A departmental Store at Airoli was opened by purchasing 330 sq.mtr plot from SIDCO. Annual sale of Airoli branch is Rs.2.56 crores by 31st March 2016. Like Airoli, Nerul is another location where the departmental store was started in 2000 by purchasing plot. Total sales of Nerul branch by 31st March 2016 is Rs.2.44 crore. As per the demand from consumers A new self service store was started in 2004 on rental basis space at Vitava, Post office, Kalwa. Total sales of Vitava branch by the end of last year is Rs.2.66 Crores. Considering the response from consumers at Kharigaon 2 branch another self service Store at kharigaon near Vitthal mandir was opened on rental basis in 2005.Total sales of this branch by the end of last year was Rs. 1.20 crores. Similarly Post office, Kalwa, Digha Navi Mumbai & Anand vihar, kharigaon (east) are the other stores are open at consumer service. Total number of member & share capital of Organisation are 7167 & Rs.81.78 crores respectively. Total sales of Organisation is above Rs.33.41 crore from Its 10 stores, 6 rationing shops, 2 medical stores & milk centers. As organization as always achieved it aim to control of inflation & market rates by providing goods & household products at affordable rates to its consumers,& considering this achievement , Maharashtra Government has honored the organization by ”SAHAKAR BHUSHAN ” award on 16-01-2014 & all credit for this goes to Honorable chairman Shri. Narayan Gawand, Board of Director and also employees & members of the organization.
